Cigars are one of my main interests. This started when I turned 35 in 2002 and for my birthday brought myself a humidor and a few cigars to put into it. As I discovered the complexity and variety in the different types of cigars, my interest grew, as did my curiosity. With a real sense of discovering a new world, I began trying more and more cigars, experiencing more and more tastes and enjoyment. I gained experience from trying more and more cigars, reading books and meeting other interested and knowledgable people on the ASC & SKC newsgroups, Carlscorona forum & during our herfs in Skåne.

Among these nice and knowledgable herfers I can mention COJ, Zeke, Wilfried, RT, Stebbe, Crona, Harald & Martin CCR to use their nicknames on the internet. I miss our meetings here in Australia, as the cigar community isn't as strong as in Sweden, especially here in Perth. Cigars are expensive and mostly the gatherings consist of expensive cigar dinners, which isn't my cup of tea. So mostly I smoke alone on the patio, often listening to Dogwatch Cigar Radio as I smoke.

My humidor. An Adorini Venezia.

For those interested to know more, here is a PDF document of common cigar terms and descriptions. It's compiled by SKC's Zeke and formatted by me.

A good introduction and reference is Theo Rudman's "Rudman's Complete Pocket Guide to Cigars - 4th Edition" . It's small, pocket sized and contains basic information in regard to cigars, plus listings of almost all Cuban and the most famous non-Cuban brands, together with descriptions and tasting results. It could do with a few updates though, even though the fourth edition is from 2001. Amazon USA seems to be the only place to find it, all other sites I've tried, only have the 1997 edition.

An interesting cigar film in VCD-format (mpg1), The Essence of the Cuban Cigar, ready to burn on a CD. The quality isn't the best, but it's worth watching all the same.
